Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are all part of ‘social media’ which is a group of Internet based applications that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content. With everyone having smart phones, access to social media has become very easy. Ten years ago there was no social media and still people were more social and active. They used to meet face to face, not on Facebook. There was a feeling of togetherness and intimacy in relationships. People would write letters to friends and relatives. Today, we only get ‘up-dates’. We only ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on someone’s post in FB and think we have done a great job. Social media is actually making us unsocial. No personal interactions, handshakes, discussions or dialogues. We need to use social media to keep up with the times. But the fact remains that we can also live without it.
